Maybe we should have called him Baby Mario...

Tiger Face

For the past month or so, Luke has been making a strange face whenever he gets really excited. Nai calls it the "Tiger Face"... He squinches his nose and gets this really fierce smile, all the while breathing in and out really loud!

It's been really hard for us to capture any video or pictures while he's doing it, because it only lasts for a few seconds and then he's done. Here's a picture I managed to take on Thanksgiving, and while it's a little blurry and he was finishing up, you might be able to get the idea:

Tree Lights and Sparks

On the Friday before Thanksgiving, the family went out to the local mall (The Domain) where Macy's was having their second annual tree lighting festival! There was lots of music and there was also a special guest: Jordin Sparks, one of the winners from American Idol (Okay, I didn't care that much, but Nai did)!

It was a pretty chilly night and the music was a bit loud but Luke didn't seem to mind. Here are some pics from the night:

We were able to get pretty close to see Jordin Sparks. Nai was excited!

The tree is lit! Fireworks go off! Looks great!!!

Thanksgiving

Here are some pics of Luke's first Thanksgiving. Hope you all enjoy! He's doing really good (I'll have more posts soon to follow)!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (the food was great, by the way)! :)

Allergies

A week ago or so Luke had a fever. It didn't last very long, but shortly after it left we started seeing a big red rash all over his skin.

We decided to call the doctor and Nai took him to get looked at. The doctor assured us he was fine and just had an allergic reaction to something. The problem is, we're not sure what it could possibly be, because he was eating the same foods we had been giving him for quite a while. It might have possibly been from some orange juice we let him sip one day, so we're avoiding giving him any more citrus stuff.

Anyway, after giving him a little bit of medicine the rash seems to have gone away. Luckily for him he didn't seem to be bothered by it.

Stuffed

Here's a picture of Luke after he's had a big meal.

He's normally very active, but after a full meal he takes it easy for a few minutes before moving around again. Look at that big belly! What a couch potato!

The Playpen is "Deeper" Now

Luke has now grown to the point where we had to bring the floor of the playpen down to keep him from climbing out. Beforehand, the playpen's floor was "raised" to halfway up the playpen, but now Luke can pull himself up onto his knees and peek out over the edge. Once we saw him doing it last night, that's when I decided the playpen mattress needed to be dropped down to the bottom. We will probably need to do the same soon for his crib, as soon as he learns how to stand up in there.

In related news, if you stand him up and lean him against something (say, the crib's railing), he will hold onto it and keep himself upright. His legs are shaky the entire time, but he can hold himself up!

In feeding news, he's now graduated to the "3rd stage" baby foods. He likes almost all of his foods. Notice how I said "almost" all of his foods. He absolutely HATES green beans.

Luke learned how to do this earlier in the week (pic taken this morning):

So now he sticks out his tongue frequently. If you start doing the same, he thinks it's funny.

Luke & Jeremy

In case anyone missed it when we were at Tim's wedding, here is Luke playing with his cousin Jeremy. Luke loved it!

Red-Faced

Nai went to get Luke one morning, only to discover that his face looked like this:

Apparently he had been sleeping on his belly and his face rubbed against the crib. Thankfully the redness went away during the day, but it freaked out Nai a little bit. :)

Bottled Up

This is probably the best job Luke has done so far holding his bottle, and we managed to catch it on video! He's getting better and better at it...

Happy Winds-day

Sorry for the dark video, but here's something that Luke enjoys. When you take a rag and blow the wind in his face, he gets excited!

Updates

No pics or videos today, but I thought I'd give an update on some of the things I've already mentioned and how much Luke has grown since then.

Feeding - Luke understands how to eat now, but most of the time he hates it. He'd rather just feed on the bottle then have to work at eating rice cereal.

Sitting - Luke is much better at sitting and can even keep himself propped up some of the time. He can't get into a sitting position on his own yet, and he can't get out of it either for that matter.

Rolling - Luke is really good at rolling over, but he still only rolls one direction. He likes being on his belly so he rarely rolls onto his back.

Grabbing - Luke is getting the hang of grabbing things. He likes to grab his blanket and put it in his mouth. He grabs his pacifier but he doesn't know how to put it in his mouth yet, so he'll usually just drop it after he holds it for a while. He hasn't tried to pick up anything really small yet and he doesn't like holding things for too long.

Demeanor - Overall Luke is a very happy baby. He likes to play by himself a lot but there are times where he wants us to pay attention to him and play with him. He likes being tickled and he likes it when you shake his hands/arms.

He HATES being tossed into the air. Get used to it, kid! You're gonna be going on roller coasters when you grow up! :P

I Don't Want Any of Your Lip Now

Luke still sucks his hands, but now he's found something else within reach to suck on...

Personally, I think he's just being lazy. :p

The picture was taken on Monday. You might notice in the pic that the sides of his face are a little red. He woke up with that and we think it might have been a couple of bug bites. That, or he rubbed his face into the crib during the night. In any case, it went away later on in the day, so he's okay now. It didn't really bother him.

Keep Moving Forward

For quite a while now we've been putting Luke to bed, only for me to get up in the morning and see him in a completely different position/orientation. This means that he's been moving, but we weren't exactly sure HOW he was able to do it. Whenever he's awake and we put him on his belly, he seems pretty content to just lay there, or he'll try to move but he never gets anywhere.

Yesterday was the first day we actually saw him moving.

As you can see in the video, Luke has a couple of his toys in front of him that he can't reach. For a while, nothing happens (use the Force, Luke!). It's not until around the three-minute mark that he makes a LITTLE bit of progress. Then further along (at the 5-minute mark) he starts trying again. He basically puts his head down and starts pushing for dear life. It's pretty funny to watch, and me and Nai crack up.

Our little boy can get around now!

Everybody's Got a Laughing Face

Sorry the video is so dark, but the image isn't the important thing here, the sound is... :)

The Feed

Here's a video of Luke trying to eat some rice cereal:

We started trying to feed him when he turned 5 months, but he doesn't quite get it yet. The only way he knows how to feed is to suck on something, so you give him the spoon of cereal and he just tries to suck on the spoon. We don't feed him the cereal every day, and we only do it once in the day; we figure he's probably not quite ready yet to eat it all the time, so we're just giving it to him occasionally and eventually he'll figure out how he's supposed to eat it.

I'm Batman.

Me and Nai were at a Wal-Mart the other night and they had Batman masks for children. So naturally, we had to try it out...

Om Nom Nom

Lately, this has been Luke's favorite hobby (pic taken this morning):

He loves eating his hands. He sticks them in his mouth and then chews and sucks on them. Most of the time he'll try to push his hand in as far as he can (he can almost fit his entire hand in his mouth!) but sometimes he'll just put his fingers in. Occasionally he'll try to put both his hands in at the same time, but he's not very successful at that. Often times he'll prefer his hands over his pacifier. I think the pacifier gets in his way.

Grabbing Your Attention

Sorry I haven't posted in a while... been busy with work and the blog kind of fell off my radar. Luke hasn't stopped growing, though! He's now 5 months and doing great. He's done a lot of new things that I hope to share with you guys in the next few blog posts.

One of the things he's learned how to do is grab objects. You can now offer something to him and he'll be able to hold it. He likes shaking his rattle and grabbing his pacifier, although he hasn't yet figured out how to orient the pacifier to stick it in his mouth!

Here's a video we took a few weeks ago, when he just started to interact with the objects on his play mat. When we first got him the mat, he was not interested in it at all. Then he took interest in the side posts. Then he started staring at the objects dangling in front of him. Now he actually grabs the objects and plays with them. He even managed to press the button that plays music!

LOL (kinda)

Luke has been starting to laugh. I haven't been able to capture any footage of it because he doesn't do it very long yet. I think he doesn't quite get the idea of laughter yet.

He's on a Roll

This is what Luke has been learning to do recently:

Those videos were taken a couple weeks ago. He's getting much better now. Now he can roll from on his belly to on his back, and vice versa. Up until yesterday he was still having trouble switching between the two, but he seems to have gotten the hang of it now. He still has some trouble going from on his back to on his belly; he rolls onto his arm and it gets stuck, making it harder for him to prop himself up afterward. This usually frustrates him, and then he starts crying after a while.

The First Day

I thought I'd start the first day of blogging by showing a video of Luke's first day.
